about

Open System are Michael Martin and Matt Hillier. The two decided to combine forces in 2003 and work on an ethno-ambient-idm project, reflecting their love of those genres. They were joined by Jake Stephenson in 2003 before his untimely death in 2005.

Their album Sanyasin is a culmination of 7 years of work. It features edits from ambient jam sessions the 3 recorded in Jake's studio, and also many field recordings Michael made on a trip to India in 2007. Beautiful, shimmering, cinematic soundscapes - lovingly crafted and ideal for late night horizontal headphone listening…

Matt's main project is Ishq, with his partner Jacqui. They are based in Cornwall, UK, and have been writing music since about 1994 under various names and guises. They have released 3 solo albums to date and 3 collaboration albums on various labels including their own label Virtual.

Michael has been writing his own music as Indidginus since 2000, and has been playing didgeridoo (which he makes use of in live performances) since 1996. He moved to Cape Town, South Africa in 2004 where he has written soundtracks for several TV commercials, series and documentaries. He was chosen by Bobby Friction as his BBC Introducing Artist on The Friction Show on BBC Radio in October 2011.
